Jayden Millard competes in USA & Canada!

Jayden had the opportunity to travel to USA and Canada towards the end of last year. Here's his thoughts on his trip:

As you are aware, I’ve just been overseas competing in the American Junior Squash Open as well as the Canadian Junior open. We departed to Boston 3/12/15 via Sydney & Buffalo, arriving a gruelling 35hours later, where we were greeted by our host families for the upcoming week. Whilst in Boston we trained with the Cross Courts Academy twice a day – we were lucky enough to be able to train with one of the greatest players ever – Thierry Lincou. After the week of training in Boston, we began the drive to Ontario, Canada, for the first tournament of the trip, The Canadian Junior Open. First up I had a local Canadian player, managing a win in 3. Unfortunately losing my next match in 4 to an Egyptian, moving me to the consolation plate. Third round I had another Canadian, but snuck in with a tough 3 setter. After a long hard 4th match, I eventually went down to a Mexican in 4 sets, knocking me out of the tournament.

A couple of days later we left Canada and headed back to Boston where we once again trained at Cross Courts Academy, preparing for the US junior open. After a couple of days, we drove down to New Haven for the US junior open, with the first match the following morning. Unfortunately, I drew a pretty tough draw, drawing good friend and training partner first round. Losing in 3 sets to a better player, moving me to the consolation draw. Second round I played an American, winning easily in 3 sets. Third match was similar, I played a Colombian and winning in a straight three sets, although I got to play on a full glass court which was pretty wicked! Fourth match I lost to a strong American in a tough 4 sets, seeing me out of the tournament.

With some pretty strong performances and good wins, I’m very happy with how this tour has gone! Also meeting the likes of Jonathan Power, David Palmer and Thierry Lincou makes it even better – I certainly learnt a lot from these legends of the game. I would like to thank Nga Hau e Wha Maori squash for helping me travel to the USA and Canada to play in some top world junior squash tournaments.
