Players and parents enjoyed some great competition, with 63 keen junior players fronting up weekly to play in 1 of 4 divisions.
I have been overseeing the division 4 players during the winter competition, and the improvement over the 10 weeks has been huge resulting in some wonderful games being played and many 5 setter matches each week being enjoyed.
I am particularly impressed with how supportive our junior players are of each other. It is wonderful hearing kids saying to each other, “wow your serve has really improved’” or “great game you played really well”. The shared suppers continue to be a success and I do believe this helps foster the great relationships I can see developing between our junior players as they are mixing from players from other local clubs.
I really enjoy working out our Anderson & Hill Most Improved Player awards at the end of each programme.
Most Improved Player for the Girls is a player new in the District who hit the ground running starting in our Division 2 competition and flew up to Division 1 part-way through the term to have an opportunity to play some more challenging games. Congratulations to Sophia Barakat-Adlam from Christchurch Squash club a keen young lady really enjoying the Junior Competition in Christchurch.
Most Improved Player for the boys is James O’Keefe from Burnside Squash Club, he has also enjoyed a great competition and goes into our Spring competition as the #1 seeded player competition. James has been a regular at the Squash Canterbury Holiday programmes since they started last year, and regularly attends club squad coaching at Burnside.
The Spring Competition has attracted 57 players with new juniors starting in Divisions 2,3 & 4 which is great to keep adding some variety into who our juniors play weekly.
