The Phil Morgan Trophy is presented annually to someone who has provided outstanding services to refereeing.

Janet is not only a very dedicated referee on a local, district and national level but she has continued to support and mentor the Marlborough Community in terms of upskilling and supporting local players with their understanding of the rules as well as developing their confidence with refereeing. She is a positive, compassionate and very patient with explaining the higher level of refereeing. She is an ambassador for squash in all its purest forms and we are very lucky to have her professionalism and commitment to Squash in Canterbury.

 This year she has umpired at the:

* NZ Junior Open

* World Masters Games in Auckland

* North Shore 5K PSA

* Palmerston North 10K PSA

* Invercargill 15K PSA

* NZ Senior Nationals

* World Juniors in Tauranga

* NZ Doubles

* Oceania Closed Championships in Tahiti

 Janet unfortunately couldn’t make the Squash Canterbury Annual Awards Evening, and this is what she had to say

Janet Udy_opt ‘I am sorry I can’t be with you all tonight celebrating squash in our region.  Instead, I am in Wellington with my family for the Alice Cooper concert - my husband and kids are massive Alice Cooper fans and I decided I’d better go along as I don’t get many opportunities these days to see all my kids in one place.

I really appreciate being acknowledged for my refereeing as I’ve spent over 40 days away from home this year refereeing.  The two highlights for me were refereeing at World Juniors and seeing the best juniors in the world and then, in September, refereeing at the Oceania Closed Championships in Tahiti.  It was particularly wonderful to experience the passion of the players at the Oceania Champs -  it was hard to make yourself heard over the supporters cheering on their players.

I’d like to acknowledge the other referees in this region, Ross and Wayne, who I am sure are just as deserving of this award.  Many, many volunteer hours are put in by many people in our sport and I’d like to encourage clubs to take the time each year to acknowledge the work of their volunteers by nominating them for these awards.

So, finally, a big thank you to everyone who has given their time to squash this year and I hope you all have an enjoyable evening.’
