Football Squash Club hosted the Canterbury C Grade Eliminations on the 11th and 12th August. 4 teams were entered to fight it off to determine who would earn the right to represent Canterbury in Auckland at the National Superchamps end of September.
The tournament stuck to time very well finishing at 9.30pm on Friday night and 4.15pm on Saturday despite multiple 5 set matches in the first round on Saturday.
Marlborough Squash Club were the eventual victors, fielding one of the youngest teams this competition has seen in a while. Nevertheless, the youth played with skills beyond their age defeating opponents with not only more wisdom but some almost twice their height! Burnside Squash Club came in behind a very close 2nd place after losing to Marlborough in the first round 3-2. Christchurch Squash club came 3rd while the hosts of the event who were plagued with sickness and disruptions causing team changes and even a default in their final tie came 4th.
We wish Marlborough the best of luck for the National Superchamps in September. To everyone else, the best of luck next year! And a big thankyou to Christchurch Football for hosting another great tournament.
