JUNIOR SDO Update

Paul Growcott was employed back in May to deliver junior programmes, activities and outcomes on behalf of Squash Canterbury for 2017.

His role is to focus on providing support at district level to foster junior Squash. 

Below is an update from Paul.

Junior D Grade Series

This is going very well, with players from Kaikoura and Greymouth playing in the series. The numbers of entries are up by 35 from 2016, with two tournaments still to go.

Canterbury Secondary Schools Squash Individual Championships.

This was held at Squashways with 34 entries. Results -

Intermediate Schools Interclub Competition.

This is ongoing at Squashways on Tuesday’s from 16 May to 15 August at 1.15 to 2.30pm.

There are 12 school teams of three players with each player playing American scoring up to 50 points or 15 minutes.

South Island Secondary Schools Team Championships

This was held at Squash HQ on the 1st & 2nd July. There were 10 boys and 4 girls teams competing for the title.

Results –

Boys: 1st James Hargest, 2nd Chch Boys High, 3rd St Bedes

Girls: 1st James Hargest, 2nd Marlborough 1, 3rdMarlborough 2

South Island Quad Tournament – Junior Team

This is being held in Timaru on the weekend of 22-23 July.

Boys – William Quin (Football), Aaron Briggs (Burnside), Matthias Paltridge (Hoon Hay).

Girls – Shalee Harris (Hoon Hay), Grace Allen (Football), Molly Allen (Football).

South Island Junior U11,13,15,17 Teams Event.

This is being held in Invercargill the weekend of 16th & 17th September.

Nomination forms have been sent out in the current newsletter with nominations closing on

24 July.

Rata club grants.

I have been working closely with Karen and David with these RATA grants. Karen has been corresponding and collating the data from the clubs, and doing an outstanding job. I will be now following up with the clubs to see if they need any assistance to meet their criteria of the funding allocated. Clubs need to know that we are all here to assist.
