The Convenor of Selectors Craig Hibbert announced the following teams to compete in this year’s event, which is being held 30th and 31st August at the NEW Christchurch Club 8 court complex, Colombo Street.
Both teams are spearheaded by respective Canterbury Champions namely Emma Cormack and Oliver Johnston at No 1s.
The Women’s team is a very youthful mix with new recruits to the team namely Kate Fox and the Carrick sisters, which is quite unique to have two siblings in team. Emma Cormack and Grace Hymers remain from last year’s team both improving from year to year and supported in this mix is Erin Ellery from Greymouth a very experienced tough competitor who will have the unique experience of representing Canterbury at both Senior and Masters level just like Scotty Gardiner. This achievement demonstrates their longevity and skillset in achieving this feat well done both.
In the Men’s, Adam Odering returns to the team after a short absence and Joe Williams also after an overseas stint last year all adding to this team being a very experienced team unit ably supported by both Nick Wilson and Matt Smith.
The event is the premiere show case of provincial pride in NZ with the likely draw being two matches each day on Friday and Saturday.
The Canterbury Men’s Team won the event for the first time ever in its 40 plus years in 2016 at Football and following year 2017 so let’s hope we can do another year matching Crusaders efforts…
