Canterbury Junior Age Group Championships Results

All Winners_opt

Well done to all the players who competed in the Canterbury Junior Age Group Championships over the weekend at Hoon Hay Squash Club.

A very high standard of squash was on display from all age groups competing. This is a great opportunity to see our juniors playing in an Age Group Tournament.  It would be wonderful to see full draws for both our Under 11 and Under 13 boys and girls next year.  This tournament is open to all juniors and is a fantastic experience for a junior of any level to be involved in. Don’t miss out next year, look out for it on the 2019 Calendar.

Are you interested in sharing your love for Squash; whilst earning some extra pennies at the same time?

We are currently looking for more coaches within Christchurch to help run and support our existing junior programmes and implement new programmes at local schools and clubs in 2018.

We are looking for people who are ideally available within school hours, some experience in coaching, attended or willing to attend the Big Nix training, great communicators and can interact well with juniors.

Junior 2100 Tournament Sunday 29th April 2018

On Sunday 29th April our 1st 2100 Junior Tournament was held at Christchurch Football Squash Club.  We had players with points range of 100 – 2090 entered, which allowed for 4 even divisions to be created with two divisions playing in the morning and two in the afternoon.

Rocky and Kirsty from Christchurch Football kept all players busy if they were not playing they were referring or marking a game.  Games all ran to time with a very high standard of squash on display.  There were many close games, Jimmy Stewart may have been a little sore and tired after he played 3 very close games all of which went to 5 sets.  Great value for money from your entry fee Jimmy!

World Class, 8 court Facility

You may or may not be aware that following the events of 2011 it was uneconomic to fix or rebuild the existing Christchurch Squash Club on its current site.

Last July Christchurch signed an agreement with the Cashmere Club to build 8 courts on their property under a land lease arrangement. They choose the Cashmere area because research by Squash Canterbury indicated this was the best location for member growth with focus towards juniors.

Unfortunately, they were under insured at the time of the earthquake and though they have approximately $3.0m of their own money the development costs $3.71m.

So, Christchurch just wanted to give you an update of their progress and ask that you visit their website, www.christchurchsquash.co.nz, because this provides more detail and suggests several ways the squash community might be able to assist.
