Squash Canterbury

Participation Activator 2023 (Part Time Roll)

Squash Canterbury is the regional sports organisation that grows the game of squash and provides opportunities for all ages and abilities throughout the upper half of the South Island.

Our community encompasses Christchurch, Selwyn, Malvern, North Canterbury, Kaikoura, Marlborough, Nelson Bays and the West Coast. We are responsible for providing participation experiences in our sport in conjunction with working with our affiliated clubs and volunteers to grow their capability and experience, as well as linking in with community groups and schools. We also facilitate representative opportunities for aspiring squash players aiming to go on to higher honours.

Squash is a fast-paced and social game that allows individuals to participate in a rewarding amount of physical activity within a small period of time, which makes it highly attractive for prospective players due to us all having less and less time to dedicate to physical activity in today’s society.

Squash Canterbury is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual that has had success in fostering participation by individuals and groups in physical activity. They will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating sustainable long-term growth at the grassroots level of squash.

Some of the responsibilities of the Participation Activator include being able to:

  • Lead, promote and manage positive relationships with clubs, volunteers and the wider squash community.
  • Sustain, grow and promote all aspects of squash, including organization of events and developing bespoke initiatives to increase the number of participants at the grassroots level.
  • Assist in developing relationships between clubs and schools which provide valuable links to engage with rangatahi and tamariki and expose them to the sport of squash.
  • Assist is developing links with key groups and developing bespoke initiatives to increase participation by girls and women.
  • Develop relationships between Squash Canterbury, clubs and community groups to foster engagement with target audiences that traditionally have not participated in squash.

The role is based in Christchurch, and is 15 hours per week for a fixed term contract through to November 2023, with a view to starting as soon as possible. You will engage with clubs around Christchurch, and also in the Selwyn, Malvern and North Canterbury areas. Due to the role being entirely funded by grant funding, this means that the renewal of a 12-month fixed term contract for 2024 will be dependent on the receipt of grant funding for the following year.

This is a great opportunity for the right person to work widely across our district with a great group of people and to help drive higher levels of participation in our sport, particularly amongst groups not strongly represented at present.

If you would like to apply for the role, please send a CV and cover letter to info@squashcanterbury.co.nz

Alternatively, if you would like to learn more about the role, please contact Squash Canterbury at info@squashcanterbury.co.nz or 027 533 7348.

Applications close Wednesday 18th January 2023 at 5pm.

Short listed applicants will be contacted once applications have closed in regards to the next steps in the process. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified within five working days.
