Every year, Squash Canterbury recognize six players, one from each of the following categories;
The winners are selected by the Squash Canterbury Board from nominations received and are based on performance on the court with the player’s success at a club, district and national level.
Jackson Bersford, Christchurch Squash Club, won ‘Men’s Squash Player of the Year’ and Emma Cormack, Christchurch Football, was presented with the ‘Turnbull Cup’ for winning Women’s Squash Player of the Year.
Jason Oxenham, Mt Pleasant, won ‘The Burnside Cup’ for securing the Masters Men’s Player of the Year and Judy Smith, Burnside, won the Seeker Cup for Women’s Masters Squash Player of the Year
The ‘Junior Boy Squash Player of Year’ category, was one of the hardest decisions for the judges to call. All the finalist have had an amazing year, especially Tom Marshall and Paul Moran who both deserve a special mention in what has been an exceptional year on court for them both. Paul was pipped to the post by fellow Blenheim player, Tom who was awarded the ‘The Growcott Cup’ for Junior Player of the Year.
Ruby Turnbull won ‘The Growcott Trophy’ for being awarded the Junior Girl Squash Player of the Year.
