New Coach of the Year

This is a new award in 2017 and it is awarded to a coach, who has been coaching for 2 years or less at any level. The panel considered the following:

·   Coach development - number of modules attended and other learning opportunities taken

·   Coach activity - number of hours coached and types of program’s / services offered

·   Athlete outcomes - evidence of improving players / team’s performances to achieve results

·   Coach's impact - influence that the coach has had on participation / membership

2017 Nominees:

·   Iain Campion – Mt Pleasant

·   Emma Cormack – Christchurch Football

·   Quinn Udy – Marlborough

It was a tough choice this year, with all nominees have clearly done some really good work. This year’s winner was Quinn Udy, Marlborough SC.

Quinn Udy - New Coach_optOver the last year Quinn has coached the two Marlborough development squads, around 12 junior players for the past three terms (at total of 27 weeks).

He has taken some of the Marlborough junior players from E to C grade, but more importantly being a junior, Quinn has inspired and motivated young players with his positive feedback and energy.

He is always on time, organized with a plan and a take home message for the juniors. Some of his players best performers include: Paul & Henry Moran, Tom & Leonie Marshall, Ricky Wirepa, Chris Hebberd and Jack Friskin. They have all been inspired and impressed by Quinn, with his encouragement to pursue the best they can be on court and his coaching skills.

Quinn couldn’t make the awards evening as he also has a date with Alice Cooper in Wellington. He sent us a few words......

‘I’m stoked to have won this award, but the credit really should go to all the great kids who have such fire and ambition for their success at Squash. It was only a matter of time before my role would be reversed and I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to share and pass on my love of the game to the next up and comers. Many thanks for Nic Dann for organizing the coaching this year’
