Junior Teams Selection Policy Nationals and Quadrangular 2018

The selectors will give due consideration to the objectives of the Squash Canterbury High Performance Programme. Selections will be made on a combination of the following criteria:

  • Results in International, National, District, Interclub and other major tournaments
  • Ability to support each other in the team environment on and off court
  • Potential to represent Canterbury at future National events
  • Appropriate level of fitness for the event
  • Commitment, Effort, Conduct and Attitude towards the sport
  • Confirmed availability for selection

Selectors will give attention to results from the following events:

  • NZ Junior Open 20 – 22 April, Invercargill
  • Canterbury Junior Age Groups 18 – 20 May, Hoon Hay SC
  • Canterbury Under 23 Championships 22-24 June, Burnside SC
  • South Island Age Group 20 - 22 July, Dunedin

Except in exceptional circumstances, at the decision of the selectors.

Residential qualifications – players must meet the residential requirement of Squash Canterbury. A player that permanently resides outside of the Canterbury region can only be considered for selection if that player is a professional player, or one of the following:

  • Previously played for Canterbury and has specific Board approval
  • Attending University, tertiary education or New Zealand training squads outside the Canterbury region
  • Has exceptional circumstances and has been approved by the Board by 11th June 2018.

Major Representative Events available for selection

 1.    South Island Quadrangular

Where:                        Timaru

When:                          27-29 July 2018

Format:                        Mixed team, 3 Senior Men and Women, 3 Boy's and Girl's, 2 Masters Men and Women, 1 Manager

Selection Date:           9th July 2018

Selected players are required to:

  • Foster team spirit
  • Wear uniform as supplied
  • Stay in accommodation as supplied (no partners)
  • Pay for own food for the weekend
  • Contribute $50 towards costs

Squash Canterbury will provide:

  • Clothing in the form of uniform jacket (to be returned after the event) and playing shirt
  • All entry fees
  • Accommodation

 2.    NZ Junior Championships

Where:                        North Shore SRC, Auckland

When:                          4 – 10 October 2018

Format:                        5 Boy's and 5 Girl's with 2 Managers & Team Coach

                                   1 Non-Traveling Reserve per team may also be selected

Selection Date:              Monday 13th August 2018

Selected players are required to:

  • For those in Christchurch, attend six weekly training sessions, prior to the Nationals
  • Support fellow team members to the best of your ability
  • Wear uniform as supplied
  • Compete in the National individual event
  • Pay for own food for the weekend
  • Contribute $200 towards costs

Squash Canterbury will provide:

  • Clothing in the form of uniform jacket (to be returned after the event) and playing gear
  • Entry fees, accommodation and transport for the Teams Event
  • Weekly training sessions six weeks out from event. Training starts Wednesday 22nd August 2018. A training schedule will be provided for those not based in Christchurch.
